“Educate a child according to his way; even when he grows old, he will not depart from it” (Mishlei / Proverbs 22:6). The foundation of education is to give each child the tools to allow him or her to consistently grow and move forward in life even after the child has completed his or her formal education or is no longer under the direct influence of their parents. We speak about the “child” and not the children because it is very important to focus on each individual child. When we look at a group of students we see many individuals, each with his or her unique potential. Yeshiva Elementary School services children in our Milwaukee community from pre-school through eighth grade. Boys' and girls' classes are separated beginning in fourth grade; however, occasionally large class sizes allow for class separation earlier in their school career. Not only is this is in accordance with our religious standards, but recent studies have shown that students in single-gender classrooms have better behavior and academically outperform students in coed classrooms. YES offers a full, dual curriculum in Judaic studies and General studies. Our calm and caring environment, where students feel safe and secure, encourages and teaches proper character traits and ethical conduct. Our highly trained teaching staff follows a well mapped out curriculum where each grade reviews, strengthens and builds on the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous grade. Our staff caters to the unique needs and abilities of individual students by using centers or flexible grouping, which allow for a more individualized learning environment. YES uses technology, story-telling and music to enhance the learning environment. Our curriculum has been designed to provide students with the tools necessary to succeed in high school and beyond. YES graduates, 100% of which have continued on to Jewish high schools, are fully prepared with superior skills. Members of the YES teaching staff are professionals who consistently seek to further improve their teaching skills and take advantage of professional development opportunities. Yeshiva Elementary School gains leadership and guidance through its membership in Torah Umesorah, The National Society for Hebrew Day Schools. Our mission at YES is to provide each one of our students with a quality education in Judaic studies and General studies, and to instill in each child a love and warmth for the Torah and its mitzvos / commandments. We do so by providing the students with a culture of caring and a climate where questions are encouraged and answers are easily found. |
